Spring Star Student – Mike Sullivan

As you all know, spring has been a strange ole time at JK Guitar. I was overwhelmed by the dedication from all of my students as lessons became virtual due to COVID-19. One in particular has lead the pack as he developed his lead playing and phrasing to perfection during this crazy time. Mike has been destroying backing tracks with sweet soulful r ...

Winter Star Student – Jacob Lafever

Jacob has been with JK Guitar for just over a year. On his first session, he walked through the door and unleashed his breath taking vocals upon the studio. He then told me he wanted his guitar playing to match his vocals! Fair play, challenge accepted. Jacob didn’t know his fretboard and struggled with bar chords… He is now reading complex chord charts (Grade 8) and being able to work out any chord I write in front of him. Outstanding effort. All of this now added to his natural singer songwriter ability is dangerous!

Jacob recently released his debut single ‘Dreamer’. Give it a listen, its an absolute cracker!

Zach Stivers – Student Of The Month – September 2019

Zach has played guitar his whole life and you can tell by his ability to pick up a song in seconds of hearing it. We’ve focused on these skills and honed them in, working on the theory behind how it all works. Combining that with his ever growing fretboard knowledge, he now has no problem improvising all around the fretboard in any key.  Its ...

His improvisation and modal playing/ understanding is star ...

Michael Erb – Student Of The Month – June 2019

Michael started with JK Guitar just a few months back in February. He walked through the door already an accomplished guitarist (always exciting for me). We’ve worked hard on various lead techniques to help improve ...

Lauren Morton – Student of the Month – April 2019

Lauren is from my hometown ‘Newcastle, England’. She has been taking lessons via Skype since January and the improvement has been incredible. Starting with open chords and simple strumming patterns, she smashed onto bar chords (Including 7th chords) and now she is playing lead. This shot is from the intro to strangers in the night which ...

January brought an influx of new students, all with different levels, abilities and goals. The competition for SOTM is really heating up! This is allowing us to make huge prog ...

A well worthy winner for student of the month in November. Andrew broke his finger early in the month and amongst having surgery to fix the bad break, he did not miss one lesson. Quite remarkably he still managed to make vast improvements through the painful month, tip of the hat to you sir!! ...
